W.O.D

Workout of the day or WOD, is a term that is used in CrossFit. CrossFit is functional training that expands on a wide range of exercises, from Olympic weightlifting, Powerlifting, Cardio, Gymnastics etc. Everyday there is a different range of exercises that are to be completed at the fullest extent of the each participant, in the end you take note of your scores at the scoreboard, reps, time etc.

CrossFit is competitive, first for yourself and your performance, and then with your fellow athletes at your Box (Box is the terminology used to identify a CrossFit gym). It is not only the competition, but also the community that is created within the Box. People create great social ties within the CrossFit community and that is what this website is intending to do.

This is where W.O.D steps in, the purpose of this website is to create a friendly and competitive social community for all CrossFit and non-CrossFit members to post online their WOD, performance, and to compete with other members on their performance. Also at WOD we also want people to discuss about their weaknesses as well as their strengths and their new skills.

The website is also there to post daily workouts, for people to perform, and to also post workouts for people on vacation, or at home. WOD also has a Social Media page on Facebook for people to communicate more, post results, photos, videos, etc.

WOD is here to bring the fun to fitness on the online sphere, bringing people together and to create a strong community in the world of CrossFit.

There is an anecdote: “An Atheist, a Vegan, and a CrossFitter walk into a bar. I only know because they told everyone within two minutes.” Yeah. CrossFitters like to talk a lot, and WOD is here for that!

Target Audience and Field Research

This website is focused on bringing people who take part in CrossFit, to attend in an online communal competition with people who are a part of the CrossFit community. WOD is about bringing people from the CrossFit community to the online sphere, it is created for people to compete and to socialize online about their daily performance in CrossFit.

The site is focused to attract CrossFitters, fans of the sport and also people who might be interested in taking part in the future. The site is currently looking to attract people from Greece and to later on expand to other countries. Our first focus though is to attract the Greek CrossFit community to the webpage and the Social Media Page.

People who do CrossFit tend to be addicted to the sport, it is very challenging and mind blowing, it takes a lot of physical strength and above all mental strength to achieve in a WOD. WODs also known as workout of the day, are a variety of exercises that are made to be performed at the highest possible intensity by each athlete.

Our age Group is people ranging from ages 18 and above, CrossFit has no age limit, people at their 70s do CrossFit, as long as there are no extreme physical problems everyone can perform and attend CrossFit.

CrossFit is for both males and females, so both sexes are a target in the WOD community, and we are looking forward to seeing them attend and take part in our online community.

WOD also posts its own workouts, or benchmark workouts for people to perform either at their Box or even at home, since many WODs do not always require equipment and workouts can be performed by body weight or cardio exercises.
To sum up all the above I have placed below WOD’s target audience:

• Ages 18 and above
• People living in Greece
• People in the Fitness area
• People attending CrossFit

Field Research

According to field research that was made online, I tried to find and locate sites with the similar concept as WOD, there were sites that posted WODs but not intended to be interactive and more in achieving an community of its own.

The first that I identified was the WOD generator, this site is created for visitors to click on a generator under various categories and to perform the workout that is given. The difference with this site is that it does not consist any results section the site link is the following:

http://www.woddrive.com/

Another site that I found was structured mainly as a blog for people to be able to leave their comments, this site is as near as to where we want our site be like, the site is:

http://www.crossfitinvictus.com/category/wod/

In this research I found many sites from around the world that have CrossFit workout content, but not in Greece. Over the past years CrossFit is growing rapidly in Greece as a result many fans are coming forward and are looking to connect online with other fellow athletes.
